A Napa Icon
Located in the heart of Napa Valley, Opus One’s winery rises elegantly from the earth beneath a crescent-shaped berm covered in green grass and wildflowers. The low-profile, beige structure blends perfectly into the backdrop of the far-off hills and neighbouring vineyards. It is here that this iconic wine is crafted.
Every vintage, Opus One produces a proprietary red wine that expresses the character of the vintage, the place, and the people behind it. 2015 is a vintage that does all this with added flamboyance and power, and in my view, will go down as one of the great vintages for Opus One. The blend is comprised of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, and 2% Malbec. Seductively silky and approachable, it is reminiscent of a basket of ripe black fruit and exotic mixed berries with notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. However, what I love most about this vintage is its structure – a perfect balance of ripe tannins and freshness with scale and structure. Although the wine is enjoyable now, it will undoubtedly develop and unfurl with time in the cellar.
Opus One 2015 is a benchmark vintage from an icon of the Napa Valley and a no-brainer for the collection.
