Chassagne-Montrachet With Style
Managed today by Caroline l’Estimé, Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard boasts an impressive collection of vineyard holdings. Their white wines include one Grand Cru, Bâtard Montrachet, and nine Premier Crus in addition to village-level wines.
At Sotheby’s Wine Retail, Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard is one of our all-time favorite producers. The wines are true representations of the individual terroirs. Caroline ferments all her whites in barrel before ageing them, some up to 18 months, in oak casks resulting in well-balanced wines with intensity. In other words: Chassagne-Montrachet with style! As well as depth and intensity. Characteristically, the Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Caillerets is more mineral driven, due to the rocky soils and stony terroir, than the richer-styled Chassagne Premier Cru Boudriotte.
These wines offer excellent value for this level of quality, and 2012 and 2013 are both vintages that I really enjoy drinking at the moment. We are also excited to offer Bâtard and Caillerets in magnum which is always more fun!
