Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley
By Victor Rabor | October 2017
For nearly twelve years, Robert Mondavi’s children, Tim and Marcia, have been writing the next chapter of the Mondavi legacy, with the acclaimed Continuum estate.
Founded in 2005 by Tim Mondavi, his sister Marcia, and their legendary father, the late Robert Mondavi, Continuum estate is ideally located on the east side of Napa Valley, high on Pritchard Hill, overlooking Oakville to the west. And it is an intriguing project, as in many ways, it is quite different from the famous Robert Mondavi winery that Tim previously headed. Continuum focuses on one main delicious, ripe, and richly-styled Bordeaux blend wine, with the intent to have it recognized as one of the world’s finest.
Continuum 2012
Continuum 2012 is a prominent vintage, as it is the first one made entirely with estate grown grapes. Full bodied and opulent, yet brilliantly balanced, it reveals itself through aromas of black cherry, plums and tobacco. Supple and harmonious, it has a long and generous finish. Already very approachable, this wine will mature for decades to come.
Blend: 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot
Continuum 2013
Critically acclaimed, Continuum 2013 is simply stunning and one of the estate's finest vintages. With aromas of cassis, expresso, and graphite with a hint of vanilla, it shows freshness, subtlety and a great depth with extremely fine tannins. Exquisitely enjoyable today, 2013 will grow for the next decades.
Blend: 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc, 9% Petit Verdot, 4% Merlot.
Continuum 2014
Continuum’s 10th release, 2014 is quite unique in its style. Less opulent than the 2013, it is an incredibly elegant and well equilibrated wine that really shows the purity of the fruit. With scents of black plum and cherry, it is very approachable thanks to its polished tannins and silky finish. Showing a superb freshness, this vintage is already drinkable, and will age wonderfully.
Blend: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 15% Petit Verdot, and 5% Merlot
