Tasting Note
Distilled in 1985 and bottled in 2007 as part of the Diageo Special Releases, this 21-year-old Lagavulin is widely regarded as one of the distillery’s greatest bottlings ever released, earning an exceptional 95 points on Whiskyfun, where Serge Valentin praised it as an “important bottling”.
The meticulously vatting of American oak and Spanish sherry casks deliver an expressive harmony of Lagavulin’s signature peat smoke with rich sherry influence, yielding layers of dark fruits, antique leather, cocoa, and subtle forest-floor notes. Bottled at a natural cask strength, it retains Lagavulin’s iconic boldness and intensity, while achieving exceptional balance and elegance on palate.
This bottling stands as one of the pinnacle expressions of Lagavulin’s sherried style – an enduring holy grail of Islay whisky.
