At the very southern end of Pauillac stands the unmistakable medieval tower of Latour, which marks the heart of the vineyards, sloping gently down to the Gironde river beyond. This proximity to the river both wards off spring frosts and cools the vineyards during particularly warm summers. The result is that Latour produces extremely consistent wines, however tricky the vintage. Above all, this is a wine of power: enormous tannic structure and great density of fruit make this one of the most long-lived of all Bordeaux.
In recent times, Latour has made waves by withdrawing from the annual En Primeur campaign; its wines are now only offered when the estate considers them ready for drinking.
Latour is owned by French businessman François Pinault.
