Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

A Vinous Treat for the One You Love

Valentine's Day is always the perfect time to treat the one you love with a thoughtful bottle to share over a romantic dinner. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, I have selected six special wines that won’t break the bank but undoubtedly add some sparkle to your night.

Krug 2002  is a statement champagne for its boldness and complexity. It’s such an inviting and rich champagne, from this fantastic Champagne vintage. Calon Ségur, with its iconic heart motif on the label, is eye-catching and from the excellent 2017 vintage – this is a really fun value choice to portray one's love.

If you want to go one step further on the Bordeaux stakes, I recommend Château Mouton Rothschild 2012. Mouton is known for its artist labels and the illustration of the 2012 vintage was by painter and sculptor Miquel Barceló, featuring the Château’s historical emblem - two rams, symmetrical and face-to-face. This is an iconic Bordeaux along with this beautiful and meaningful label, one would be thrilled to receive a gift bottle like this.

The highly prized Les Amoureuses vineyard in Chambolle-Musigny, for which the direct translation to English is “The Lovers”, is another popular and romantic choice.  Groffier makes an expressive and exquisite Les Amoureuses. This bottle of 2016 is drinking superbly now but will also age gracefully.

For the Valentine who is a wine connoisseur, I recommend Armand Rousseau’s Charmes Chambertin 2015, which is a wonderful example of this Grand Cru vineyard that offers immense drinking pleasure already. Lastly, for the Valentine who is adventurous, the cult wine Sine Qua Non: Syrah Ratsel 2016 is a fun and exotic choice. This is a full-bodied, concentrated and flamboyant wine with limited production and a lot of personality.

Please see my selection below and let us know if you need more suggestions for a wine buff Valentine.
