Nestled in one of Europe’s most idyllic regions, Tuscany’s Val d’Orcia, Tenuta di Trinoro is producing wines as gorgeous as their surroundings. The Franchetti-owned property, in spite of its proximity to Montalcino, is not producing Sangiovese, but instead the Bordeauxvarieties. Foremost among these is the fickle but brilliant Cabernet Franc. Trinoro’s Cabernet Franc wines exude aromatic finesse and supple power; richness allied to grace.
Tenuta di Trinoro is the estate’s main wine, and the best place to start; then try the three single vineyard Cabernet Franc wines: Magnacosta (rich and generous); Tenaglia (spicy and emphatic) and Camagi (powerful and concentrated). Palazzi is the outlier: 100% Merlot. The 2016s in particular, a wonderful vintage in Tuscany, are drinking beautifully today.
