Founded in 1864 by Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves – who, after years of training in Bordeaux, returned to his homeland with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot cuttings – Vega Sicilia began as an unconventional vision on the soils of Ribera del Duero, and ultimately rose to become Spain’s undisputed ‘First Growth’ estate.
The estate’s evolution has been guided by generations of vignerons and, since 1982, has remained under the stewardship of the famed Álvarez family, who continue to uphold its legacy and uncompromising standards.
Vega Sicilia is renowned for their defining long-aging philosophy, often described as a “culture of patience and dedication.” Their wines – most notably the iconic cuvée Unico – undergo an extended maturation, which often exceeds a decade before release. This deliberate approach reflects the estate’s unwavering commitment to patience and craftsmanship, resulting in age-worthy wines that embody exceptional complexity, elegance, and grace.
Among our recent arrivals is the latest release of the distinguished Unico 2015 and Valbuena 5° 2020, alongside compellingly priced selections of Alión, Pintia, and Macán, the latter cultivated in collaboration with Benjamin de Rothschild. This is a parcel that truly should not be missed by admirers of the Spanish Great.
