The Grand Cru Finesse of Nicole Lamarche

Retail Team | May 8, 2024

For centuries, Domaine Lamarche has possessed some of the finest vineyards in Vosne-Romanée and arguably all of Burgundy. In addition to enviable plots in Grands Crus like Echézeaux and Clos Vougeot, Lamarche’s glittering crown jewel is its La Grande Rue monopole, which runs parallel to and just across the road from iconic sites of Romanée-Conti and La Romanée.

With Nicole Lamarche acting as winemaker since 2018, the property has a vigneron whose ambition and skill matches and even elevates the vaunted pedigree of these classic vineyards. Releases in recent vintages have brilliantly reflected her vision for delicate, pure, and high-toned Vosne-Romanée wines.

Nicole has brought a delicate touch to the estate’s vineyards and wines. There is no formula, she insists, approaching each cuvée anew, though her top wines consistently employ around 30% whole bunches and show restrained use of oak. The farming is meticulous, organic and biodynamic, but not certified, with all fruit hand-picked.

The selections on offer today include two outstanding vintages of the Grande Rue, including a magnum release of the Cuvée 59 from 2020, which layers velvety heft into Nicole’s characteristically elegant and refined style.
