Amélie Berthaut is no longer the unknown quantity she was when she burst onto the Burgundy scene a decade ago when only in her twenties. But as she has received the recognition she deserves, so have her wines improved; this charming domaine in Fixin is now responsible for some of the best wines of that underrated village, along with numerous others in the Côtes de Nuits.
The Berthaut-Gerbet style combines glossy, concentrated fruit with excellent freshness, minerality and terroir expression. Given that Amélie is married to one of the region's preeminent viticulturalists (Nicolas Faure), it is no surprise the fruit is so vibrant and healthy in these wines. Even in the humble Fixin village wine this is visible; the Vosne and Chambolle wines however manifest the success of this approach in full measure. And given the obvious class of the wines, the prices remain reasonable at this address.
