Solaia: A Super Tuscan You Need to Know

Finna Sze | March 8, 2023

The Tenuta Tignanello estate is in the heart of Chianti Classico, and Solaia is one of the estate’s two prized vineyards where the soils that originated from marine marlstone from the Pliocene period are rich in limestone and schist.

As a Super Tuscan, Solaia is made from Cabernet Sauvignon, blended with Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc. It always offers intense, sweet ripe cherry and black currant fruit aromas.

Solaia is only produced in exceptional vintages and was not produced in the vintages of 1980-1984, or 1992.

The 2005 Solaia offers aromas of blueberries, blackberries, dark chocolate and a touch of cedar. It is full-bodied, powerful with fine tannins and a long finish. More importantly, it is on promotion this month!
