Ornellaia is one of those reassuringly reliable wines. Whatever the occasion, whatever the vintage, Ornellaia delivers the warm embrace of Mediterranean Italy in Super Tuscan form. The Bordeaux blend that constitutes the main wine varies by vintage; in great years like 2015, the Cabernet takes the ascendancy; in cooler years, like 2018, the supple fruit of Merlot leads the blend. Either way, expect the full body and firm structure of the Bordeaux varieties, enriched by generous fruit.
The second wine of Ornellaia, Serre Nuove, is an age-worthy, excellent value option for weekday drinking, while Le Volte is an insider choice for an easy-drinking, casual Italian red. Finally, we are pleased to offer a rarity: Ornellaia Bianco, the brilliant Sauvignon Blanc (with a touch of Viognier) that is the white counterpart to the Grand Vin. Sushi would make a stunning pairing.
