Online Exclusive: Yann Durieux

Retail Team | April 4, 2024

Yann Durieux, owner and operator of Recrue des Sens in the Hautes Côtes de Nuits, has quickly become a sensation in the Côte d’Or. His easy-going demeanor belies a fanatical approach to detail in the pursuit of Burgundy greatness. He vinified his first harvest solo at age thirteen and spent ten years working at the cult estate Domaine du Prieuré Roch. There, his talent and natural feel for biodynamic viticulture earned him the duty of overseeing the domaine’s prized parcel of Clos-de-Bèze.

In 2010, Yann embarked on a lifelong dream of recovering three hectares of family vineyards. He acquired a struggling winery, Recrue des Sens, as a base for operations and has since added more vineyards to his holdings. His natural wines, painstakingly crafted and widely acclaimed, have helped put the Hautes Côtes de Nuits on the map as an appellation of tremendous potential.

Farming at Recrue des Sens is 100% biodynamic, a holistic philosophy that extends to whole-bunch fermentation with natural yeasts and no additives during the winemaking process. Vines are unpruned and instead braided, a labor-intensive technique believed to promote healthy growth and higher-quality grapes. The resulting style of Pinot Noir displays exceptional precision, purity, and seamless elegance.

Sotheby’s Wine is thrilled to share this online exclusive that includes cuvées from recent vintages, available for a limited window of time.

A centerpiece of the collection is the Tête de Ponts cuvée, available in both bottle and magnum format from 2014 and 2017. The only wine produced by Yann that matures in new oak, the Tête de Ponts showcases gorgeous integration and harmony, as well as the energy and focus that is this bright winemaker’s trademark.
