Online Exclusive: Clos des Lambrays

Retail Team | March 19, 2024

A jewel of the Côte de Nuits, the Clos des Lambrays is among the oldest and most prized vineyards in Burgundy. First established in 1365, the clos was revered for its wines long before it was formally recognized as a Grand Cru in 1981.

Comprising around nine hectares enclosed by a wall of dried stones in Morey-Saint-Denis, the site encompasses three microclimates, multiple aspects, a hillside of 60 meters in elevation, and mixed soils of limestone and red clay, making for a rich complexity that is reflected in these textured, precise wines.

That diversity is now being fully explored by Jacques Devauges, who took over as winemaker in 2019, his debut vintage. Jacques has embarked on a new program of parcellaire vinification, separating sub-plots into small tanks, making for 11 cuvées which are blended prior to bottling. He also introduced organic farming in his first year and introduced biodynamic approaches in 2020, bringing the production to a new level of elegance and refinement.

In this rare online exclusive, Sotheby’s Wine is thrilled to present cuvées from this historic Grand Cru vineyard in the 2019 and 2020 vintages. The 2019, available in magnum format, was praised by Wine Advocate critic William Kelley as “the finest Clos de Lambrays of the 21st century—for now!” Allocations of these releases from this great Burgundian clos are limited, so take advantage of this stellar opportunity today.
