Online Exclusive: Andremily

Finna Sze | February 27, 2024

Today, I would like to introduce you to a boutique winery, from Santa Barbara, California, Andremily.

Andremily is a family winery founded by Jim Binns and his wife Rachel. The winery name is a combination of their children’s names, Andrew and Emily.

Winemaker Jim has directly contributed to some of the most sought-after California wines ever made during his 12 years as assistant winemaker to Manfred Krankl at Sine Qua Non. In 2012, Jim launched the first vintage of his very own wine label and moved on from Sine Qua Non in 2017 to dedicate all of his time and energy to Andremily.

Focusing exclusively on Rhône varieties, Andremily produces limited quantities in each vintage. Since the first vintage, 2012, they have already received several high scores from various wine critics.

Regarding the winemaking of Andremily, the grapes undergo a period of cold soaking before fermentation is kicked off. Once the fermentation is complete, the wines go directly into French oak barrels, of which 60%-70% are new. The wines are then typically aged 22 to 28 months in barrels before bottling. The wine style is always powerful with concentrated fruit flavours, yet elegant with fresh acidity followed by a lingering finish.
