Within the past few years, close watchers of the Côte de Nuits have been abuzz over the rise of a dynamic young star: Alix Millot of Domaine Jean-Marc Millot.
Under her light touch, this relatively recent entrée into the Burgundy scene has fulfilled the promise critics detected early on – generating classic wines that feel pure, precise, and almost weightless at times. Limited quantities have made the domaine something of a hidden gem, but as word gets out, these bottles are becoming increasingly scarce. We’re thrilled to offer a set of gorgeous 2020s that are guaranteed to trigger further demand for Domaine Jean-Marc Millot.
Alix’s father, Jean-Marc, established the estate in 1992, quietly but consistently producing excellent wines from three Grand Cru vineyards (Clos de Vougeot, Échézeaux, and Grands-Échézeaux) and one marvelous Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru (Les Suchots).
When Alix assumed control in 2017, she didn’t depart from her father’s approach, but only amplified his finessed, gentle style. Farming is organic and biodynamic (though not certified), ensuring vitality from vines that are 50 years in age or older. Slow fermentations and élevages invest surprising density and complexity into wines that delight with sheer pleasure and drinkability.
The 2020 Échézeaux du Dessus, culled from a parcel planted in 1949 and owned by the family for eight generations, is a masterful rendition of Grand Cru terroir, concealing muscle in a seamless, tightly-wound texture. The 1er Cru Les Suchots is a Vosne-Romanée not to be missed, energetic, intense, and precisely defined, while the Aux Faulques mesmerizes with a sensuous perfume that is a Millot trademark. Going from strength to strength, Domaine Jean-Marc Millot makes excellence look effortless.
