Once, it was common to hear Gevrey-Chambertin’s Domaine Duroché associated with phrases like “insider favorite” or “under the radar.” No more. Today, Domaine Duroché is firmly recognized among the greatest producers of the appellation. We’re extremely pleased to share a small but brilliant selection from this coveted producer working at the top of his game.
The ascent of this estate under the youthful guidance of fifth-generation Pierre Duroché has been remarkable. Even so, 2020 may be remembered as a major turning point. “The 2020 vintage is Pierre Duroché’s greatest to date,” raved Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, while Vinous wrote of “a sublime set of wines from Pierre Duroché, their only drawback being the minuscule quantities.”
Lower yields supplied grapes with silky concentration, lifted by the vintage’s surprising vibrancy. Pierre’s gentle touch knit these elements together into a series of cuvées that are genuinely spectacular, achieving the harmonious balance that is Duroché’s signature. Village-level bottlings like Duroche’s 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin are showing beautiful purity and luscious touches of red cherry and ripe strawberry.
Two releases from the négociant label show Pierre’s sure hand with plots outside his usual rotation. Working with fruit purchased from his wife Marianne’s family, the winemaker crafted a supple, fragrant village Vosne-Romanée and a 1er Cru Combe Au Moin, where higher elevations produced refined acids and superb elegance.
Not to be missed, these rare wines mark a historic vintage for Domaine Duroché.
