New Arrivals: Arnaud Ente

Retail Team | June 18, 2024

What’s the price of greatness? For Arnaud Ente, the mastermind behind some of Meursault’s most precise and opulent wines, it requires a level of toil and focus that is remarkable even among Burgundy’s most dedicated artisans.

The rewards of such an approach speak for themselves: the demand and excitement today around Arnaud’s micro-production white Burgundies is hard to overstate.

Arnaud farms four hectares, including prime holdings in Meursault’s clay-rich clos En L’Ormeau, the lieu-dit Les Petits Charrons, and the Premier Cru La Goutte d’Or, as well as additional vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet and Volnay. Just four people – Arnaud, his wife Marie-Odile, and two employees – do all the work in the vineyard and cellar. On these biodynamically farmed plots, perfection is the standard. Yet it’s this total commitment that’s led to sell-out success for Ente’s top cuvées and to critic Jasper Morris MW’s declaration that he is “arguably Burgundy’s brightest rising star.”

Shaped by his time working at Domaine Coche-Dury, Arnaud picks early and employs just 20% to 30% new wood barrels, relying on a wide range of vessels from large foudres to stainless steel to achieve complexity in the wines.

The four cuvées Sotheby’s Wine is pleased to share today hail from the 2019 vintage, balancing rich old-vine concentration with linear elegance and minerality.
