Domaine Bernard Moreau is an estate almost inseparable from the modern identity of Chassagne-Montrachet. The Chardonnays are marvels of balance – seamless, precise, pure and routinely recognized among the appellation’s finest.
Alex Moreau, a fifth-generation winemaker, trains the winery’s focus on terroir, practicing organic viticulture without the use of chemicals and accomplishing lower yields through old vines and deft handwork in the vineyards. “You want the best Chassagne-Montrachet? This is where you call first,” wrote Vinous.
Sotheby’s Wine is thrilled to present two cuvées from the 2020 vintage that serve as an ideal introduction to this Chassagne-Montrachet master. 2020 was a classic year defined by freshness and vibrancy – traits that underpin the greatness of these releases.
The Bourgogne Blanc is entirely from Chassagne-Montrachet area vines and sees no new oak, lending the wine a clean and precise profile with a profusion of fresh orchard fruits on the nose.
The Chassagne-Montrachet village wine is a calling card cuvée for the estate, helping to establish Moreau’s pristine reputation. Blended with grapes from northern and southern plots of Chassagne, this wine possesses both minerality and power, polished inside barrels that are 25% new.
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate has described Domaine Bernard Moreau as the source of “some of the finest whites produced on the Côte de Beaune.” Our current selection is an exquisite introduction to this outstanding estate.
