Louis Roederer: A Stellar Collection

Nick Jackson, MW | December 19, 2024

There are few champagnes I'd rather drink right now than Louis Roederer. From top to bottom, this famous house is producing their best ever wines, a product of meticulous work in the vineyard (almost all of which they own, unusually for a Grande Marque) and imaginative winemaking from the philosopher king of Champagne, Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon. The recent introduction of the numbered Brut Collection NV is a huge step forward for the house, offering an entry-level wine of exceptional intricacy and pleasure, thanks to the inclusion of perpetual reserve wine (a blend of vintages added to the same tank, year after year). The current version, 244, includes fully 36% of perpetual reserve.

Among the higher-end cuvées in stock, the Cristal 2015 was beautifully rounded and with a mousse of great finesse when tasted last month. In the Brut Nature Rosé, the absence of sugar is scarcely perceived amid the supple, seamless red-fruited palate; and the Blanc de Blancs is a feast of chalky goodness. And if I have not tempted you enough yet, to celebrate the new year, we are offering a free Louis Roederer candle with any purchase of at least one bottle of Brut Collection and one bottle of any of the vintage wines.
