Hyde de Villaine is a well-known winery located in Napa Valley, California. It is a venture between the Hyde family from Napa Valley and the de Villaine Family, co-owners of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti from Burgundy.
The vineyards of Hyde de Villaine are situated in the Carneros region of Napa Valley, a region known for its cool climate and ideal conditions for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The winery also sources grapes from carefully selected sites in other parts of Napa Valley to produce a diverse range of wines.
Comandante is the estate’s flagship wine. Made of 100% Chardonnay, the wine is fermented and aged in 15% new oak, foudres, and concrete eggs for 18 months without stirring until it is bottled both unfined and unfiltered. It offers scents of citrus, apricot, and beeswax, while the palette shows a delightful freshness with focused acidity and a long, nuanced finish.
Apart from the exceptional Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, Hyde de Villaine also produces limited quantities of Syrah which show intense flavours of dark berries and exotic spices. In addition, the Belle Cousine, crafted from the Bordeaux blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, offers layers of dark fruits, salty minerality, and a hint of spice.
