Domaine Jean-Marc Millot is probably not yet a household name for Côte de Nuits lovers, but a combination of quality and pricing means that is likely to change soon. At this small domaine in Nuits-St-Georges, the young Alix Millot is making perfumed, sensual wines with a light touch: everything we like in Burgundy.
The magic here relies on destemmed fruit, gentle extraction and limited vat time for a particularly elegant, finessed style of red Burgundy. The Savigny and Côtes de Nuits Villages Fauluqes are charming introductions to the domaine, while the Vosne Suchots and the Echezeaux show the full potential. Note the 1949 plantings in Echezeaux are bottled separately, yielding a particularly concentrated and complex example of this sometimes variable, large vineyard.
