An Appreciation for Half Bottles
Half bottles are always great fun, and I am a big fan because as much as I enjoyed sharing a bottle with friends and colleagues, half bottles are particularly handy and enticing for three reasons:
First, are you worried about overindulging? Problem solved. 'A workday lunch' or 'a Monday night with an early meeting the next morning' does not necessarily mean no wine; in fact, a half bottle is a perfect size for such an occasion.
Secondly, as a curious wine lover, a smaller bottle allows you to taste a young wine and track its development while holding back the larger formats for maturation.
Lastly, and on a more personal note, I always enjoy the occasional sweet wine, but I can only manage small quantities. Therefore, a half-bottle is just the right size to wash down your dessert, offering a sense of satisfaction with just a touch of sweetness at the end of a meal.
