Gems from Prieuré-Roch

Nick Jackson, MW | September 6, 2025

Domaine Prieuré-Roch is one of those Burgundy domaines more discussed than tasted, which is a little surprising given the relatively large size of the holdings here (around 10 hectares). Everything is done a little differently at Prieuré-Roch. Farming is meticulous and managed biodynamically. The fruit is vinified whole cluster à la DRC (of which the founder, Monsieur Roch, was a co-owner). And above all, very little sulfur is used in order to present the purest possible expression of fruit.

The domaine's holdings focus on the Nuits St. Georges Premier Cru Clos des Corvées (the family owns more than five hectares of this site, located on the Premeaux side of Nuits). From it, they produce several wines. The top wine is the Corvées itself, a selection of particularly concentrated berries. Next comes the Vieilles Vignes (old vines), and finally the 'regular' Nuits St. Georges Premier Cru. Expect an aromatic breadth, silken textures and perfumed finishes not usually associated with the village of Nuits St. Georges. These are some of the village’s most dazzling and distinctive wines and are well worth your attention.
