Flor de Pingus - Ribera del Duero

The Second Wine of Dominio de Pingus

By Howard Lee | December 2018

Ribera del Duero is one of most renowned Spanish wine regions with a hot, dry climate that produces some of the finest based Tempranillo wines anywhere. Other than the world famous Vega Sicilia, Dominio de Pingus produces equally brilliant (although stylistically different) wines that are highly sought by wine lovers the world over.

Led by Peter Sisseck, a Danish winemaker who honed his craft in Bordeaux, the winery’s flagship wine, Pingus, has been adored by critics and wine lovers since the first vintage of 1995, however, Pingus is only available in very limited quantities and is not priced for everyday drinking. Fortunately, the domaine’s second wine - Flor de Pingus is produced in  larger volumes (about 90,000 bottles per year) which makes it more affordable and an excellent introduction to the first wine.

Flor de Pingus is made from vines selected from 16 different vineyards within the village of La Horra, and the vines have an impressive average age of 35 years old! Different parcels are fermented separately and then blended to make the final wine, which is perfectly balanced and truly reflects the terroir of La Horra while demonstrating Pingus' character with style.

We now have two recent vintages on offer; both are intense and expressive wines while maintaining ample freshness and have plenty of room for ageing if desired..
