Primus inter pares may be the Latin saying that mostly accurately captures Château Lafite's status among its fellow First Growths: first among equals. What always impresses about Lafite is not its exuberance or loquacity, but instead its understated conviction and unassailable class. The purity of its cedary aromas, the fine-boned tannins and eternal finish: all are works of vinous wonder.
Currently in stock, we have two vintages of the glorious second wine, Carruades, from the compelling and complete 2018 and 2020 vintages. Likewise from 2020, a ripe, balanced year, the Grand Vin; and, now approaching a glorious plateau of drinking pleasure, the 2001, a wine of great stony intensity and savoury depths. Tasted in July, it was a benchmark Lafite with decades yet to run.
