From his base in Vougeot, Charles van Canneyt is producing some of Burgundy’s most reliable and satisfying wines in the Côte de Nuits, all for very fair prices. Charles’ style is one that emphasises purity, finesse and aromatic distinction rather than density or weight. For me, it is almost a platonic ideal of what good red Burgundy should be: transparent to its terroir, with clear differences between each appellation.
We are pleased to offer the charming 2022 vintage, a year that combines fruit concentration with acidic balance and juicy expressiveness. These traits are particularly evident in the Vosne village wine, and the Vougeot Premier Cru; sources of great drinking pleasure even today. The Nuits St. Georges Murgers, located close to the Vosne border, offers additional depth of flavour, as does the Clos Vougeot, an excellent example from a variable vineyard. And if you can reach for it, the Romanée St. Vivant is simply one of Burgundy’s consistently great wines with appropriate bottle age.
