2018: A Splendid Vintage for Fourrier
I have long been a fan of the succulent and pure wines crafted by Jean-Marie Fourrier – a name that is very much in the top echelon of Burgundy nowadays.
We have recently received his range of 2018s, and while I tend to prefer more classic vintages, I feel Fourrier’s wines are especially successful in warmer vintages like this. The 2018s are really delicious and have such “drinkability” it's often difficult not to finish the whole bottle by yourself!
From the juicy Bourgogne Rouge for everyday casual drinking to the crunchier Gevrey Chambertin, his whole range seems so approachable. From the more iconic vineyards, we also have limited quantities of the revered Clos St-Jacques, the impressive Chambertin that Jean Marie produces through his micro-négoce, and the pinnacle of Domaine Fourrier: the ultra-rare Griottes Chambertin, that is an example for all producers of this Grand Cru.
If you like your pinot noir to be pure, juicy, and appealing like me, you should give these a try.
