Fourrier: One of Gevrey-Chamberlin's Finest
By Vivian Liang | November 2017
Domaine Fourrier has a long history in the village of Gevrey Chambertin, however it has really excelled over the last twenty years. The current generation, Jean-Marie Fourrier, has managed the domain since 1994 and has made changes in both farming and in the cellar to increase the quality and take the domain to the lofty heights of being the finest in Burgundy.
His philosophy of "doing nothing" on the vineyard enables these ancient vines to thrive while allowing naturally tight yields. Only fruit from vines older than 30 years of age is used and new oak is carefully limited at around 20% to encourage purity. The results of his work are wines of great character and a sense of where they are from. His wines are marked by energetic fruit, well-integrated oak notes and layers of flavours - but never overwhelming. There is an energy and finesse that has captivated Burgundy lovers such as myself!
