Domaine de la Côte

Vivian Liang | February 21, 2020

Launched in 2013, Domaine de la Côte is a project by Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman. It is a collection of six parcels spanning 40 acres on the westernmost edge of the Santa Rita Hills appellation in Santa Barbara County, California.

The six parcels, Memorious, Bloom’s Field, Siren’s Call, Clos Juliet, La Côte and the Santa Rita Hills appellation, sit at 700 feet above the Santa Ynez River. Each is unique in geology, aspect and microclimate, with all parcels being organically farmed. The grapes are fermented without temperature control, utilizing large percentages of whole cluster bunches and a judicious amount of new wood.

A well-known wine industry leader, Parr wears many hats: he is an author, winemaker and among America’s most well-respected sommeliers. Sashi Moorman, a former chef by trade, is the Domaine’s current winemaker. He is a leading advocate of early-picked, low-alcohol wines, with a specific focus on California’s cooler sites. Moorman also serves as the winemaker at two other Californian estates, PiedraSassi and Sandhi.

It’s hard for us admirers not to relate these wines to the great Pinot Noirs of Burgundy, but these wines do spark a distinct personality of their own. Perfumed, exotic and feminine, they are a true reflection of terroir. Here at Sotheby’s Wine, we are a big fan and encourage you to try them for yourself.

We are lucky to acquire a small parcel directly from Domaine de la Côte, and we can’t wait to share them with you. Please act quickly as quantities are limited.
