Barbera’s natural home and most profound expression is in northwest Italy’s Piedmont, where rolling hills and clay-limestone soils elevate the grape’s power and intensity.
High acids and soft tannins have made Barbera a classic pairing with regional Italian cuisine for centuries. This collection, featuring signature cuvées from four legendary Piedmont producers – G.B. Burlotto, Sottimano, Giacomo Conterno, and Giuseppe Rinaldi – showcases Barbera at its most nuanced, age-worthy, and expressive form. Sotheby’s Wine is thrilled to share these releases, available in small quantities.
Selected from standout vintages, all four Barberas hail from the prestigious Alba appellation of Piedmont. Sloping vineyards and chalky soils complement the variety’s bright appeal with a full-bodied mineral character and supple elegance. For the 2018 Sottimano Pairolero, grapes gathered from two top Neive vineyards gain extra depth, class, and complexity from extended macerations and barrel aging.
With each wine already matured from several years of cellaring, you can enjoy them now or store for further refinement.
