Château Canon: Premier Grand Cru Classé B of Saint-Emilion
Finna Sze | March 16, 2023
Located southwest in the town of Saint-Emilion, Château Canon is named after Jacques Kanon who bought the winery in 1760, and it has been owned by the Wertheimer family (owners of Chanel) since 1996. Nowadays, Château Canon owns a total of 34 hectares of vineyards where 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc are planted.
The 2010 is approachable and shows aromas of blackberries, liquorice and toasted oak. It offers freshness and fine structure on the palate.
Plenty of cassis, plum, minerality, earth and a touch of vanilla can be found in the high-praised 2016. The palate is medium to full-bodied with supple tannins and vibrant acidity.
Moving forward, the 2018 delivers more dark fruits, dark chocolate, spices and minerality. It is powerful and already opens beautifully on the palate.
Château Canon has been on an upward trajectory recently, not to mention the exceptional quality that the wines are still offering for the value! Let’s discover more vintages, now available at Sotheby’s Wine!
