Champagne Lanson: At the Top of Its Game

Nick Jackson, MW | December 18, 2024

Champagne above all other French wine regions is changing before our eyes. The challenge to the Grandes Marques represented by the grower champagne movement in the last 20 years has encouraged the houses to farm better and produce more serious wines. All this means that some houses that have not always been bastions of quality have improved beyond recognition. One such is Champagne Lanson. Take for example the flagship non-vintage wine of the estate, Le Black Creation. This wine offers remarkably interesting wine for the price: dry, pure and appetising.

One secret to Lanson's fine-boned style is the very limited amount of malolactic fermentation they perform; unusual in the region, this means the wines show an assertive freshness and grace that makes them compelling aperitifs. One such is the Blanc de Blancs; another the non-vintage rosé, offered here as a set with two Lanson flute glasses. For a richer wine style showing the benefits of bottle age, the 2002 vintage Noble is drinking beautifully today. Whatever your preference, for only an additional 50 HKD, we will be pleased to add a gift box containing two Lanson Champagne flutes.
