Pierre Girardin is the son of legendary Burgundy winemaker, Vincent Girardin. The latter sold his domaine in 2012, but held back around 4.5 hectares of his best terroirs for his son to cultivate when he wanted. In 2017, that time arrived, and since then, Pierre Girardin has shot to fame as an unusually talented young winemaker. He has supplemented the family legacy plots with contracts for other top-quality sites from family friends.
The quality starts in the vineyard, with obsessive viticultural practices ensuring top-quality fruit. In the winery, reds are made with a gentle hand in order to emphasize finesse and purity, while whites are chiselled and tensile. This is benchmark modern Burgundy in both colours.
In our selection, note the magnums of the exceptional Bourgogne Blanc, Eclat de Calcaire. After that, we focus on various top Meursault climats, largely from the excellent 2020 vintage. The concentration and focus of this vintage are beautifully handled by Pierre. In red, why not compare two of the best Vosne Premiers Crus? Suchots and Hauts Beaumonts represent two irresistible options.
