Domaine François Bertheau

Chambolle-Musigny is perhaps my favorite village in Burgundy. It represents the sensual and alluring part of Burgundy that entices so many wine lovers. The vineyard of Les Amoureuses is one of the pinnacles of what this village represents, and it is widely regarded as the finest premier cru in Chambolle-Musigny, equal to many a Grand Cru in Burgundy! There are a number of acclaimed producers making Les Amoureuses such as Comte Georges de Vogüé, Georges Roumier and J.-F. Mugnier. One relatively unknown producer of this great vineyard is Domaine François Bertheau, who has been flying under the radar for quite some time. I recently tried and fell in love with his Les Amoureuses.

François Bertheau has a tiny parcel (0.32 ha) of Les Amoureuses. As with many great wines, the real work is done in the vineyards: François Bertheau is known as a hands-off winemaker, with very little intervention in the winery. He allows spontaneous fermentation from natural yeasts, does little racking and uses scarce new wood ageing. And what about the wines? They are pure and delicate, representing quintessential Chambolle. Bertheau’s Les Amoureuses is highlighted by its finesse, elegance and stunning aromatics. They drink beautifully upon release yet have the pedigree to evolve gracefully – a great balance of approachability and age-ability.

We have acquired a small parcel of François Bertheau’s Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses ranging from 2005 to 2016. This offer is very limited in quantity - I urge you to get some before they are gone!
