The New Meursault Superstar
By Vivian Liang | March 5, 2019
Founding the Domaine in 1992, Arnaud Ente has gone from becoming one of the rising stars in Burgundy, with a cult following, to now sitting on the top table of Burgundy Domaines.
Prior to setting up his own Domaine, Arnaud learnt his craft working with one of the greatest white winemaker's in all of Burgundy: Jean Francois Coche from Domaine Coche-Dury. There is no doubt you see this experience showing through in his wines that show weight of fruit with freshness, elegance and precision.
Arnaud makes three micro cuvées based on the age of the vines: Meursault, planted in 1955 and 2003; Meursault "Clos des Ambres", with 65 year old vines; and the Meursault "Sève du Clos" with vines aged at least 100 years. He also owns some small fine parcels in Puligny Montrachet, among which 1er Cru Les Referts (0.22ha) abuts the climat of Meursault Charmes. This climat of Puligny is shared with some of the most well-known producers such as Faiveley and Etienne Sauzet. Arnaud also produces delicious reds from Volnay 1er Cru Santenots du Milieu and great value Bourgogne level wines.
We are huge fans of his wines, both white and red. The whites are undoubtedly some of the very finest crafted in Burgundy. Sadly the wines are rather limited, with the Domaine producing an average of only 14,000 bottles annually, so I urge you act fast in order to enjoy some of the recently arrived 2016s!
