As one of the first red wines in the Chianti Classico region that did not use white grapes, Tignanello is a highly-esteemed Italian wine that exemplifies excellence and craftsmanship in winemaking.
Tignanello, made primarily with Sangiovese and a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, undergoes an additional 12-month period of ageing in the bottle before being released. It is bottled only in favourable vintages and was not produced in 1972, 1973, 1974, 1976, 1984, 1992 or 2002.
The 2020 vintage shows intense ruby red in colour with complex aromas of ripe cherries, strawberries, blackberries, violets with roasted coffee beans and a hint of dark chocolate. You can expect spicy notes such as pepper and liquorice, followed by a lengthy finish. The wine is full-bodied with potential to age gracefully for 10 to 20 years or more, allowing its flavours and aromas to mature and integrate further.
