People often misconceive Bordeaux as only first-growths or exclusive garage wines from Pomerol that fetch sky-high prices. However, Bordeaux is home to more than 6,000 winegrowers in addition to numerous négociants, wine cooperatives and brokers.
Every vintage, these professionals bring to market a cross section of fantastic wines from across the Bordeaux region that represent superb value. In my view, I believe there is no other region that can offer such great value at the sub HKD1,000 range.
I have selected a list of Bordeaux wines at this price point that we have enjoyed tremendously recently. There are great young vintages, such as 2015 and 2016, as well as legendary ones such as 2000 and 2005.
One of my personal favorites is Les Champs Libres 2016, a gorgeous white from the right bank crafted by the Guinaudeau family of Château Lafleur. Made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc, it shows wonderful freshness and notes of passion fruit, peach and honey. I am also head over heels for Belair Monange and its second wine Annonce from the Moueix stable, both of which are incredibly well made for their price point. Last but not least, Leoville Barton 1998, a quintessential St Julien, is drinking superbly now with silky tannins and layers of aged complexity. There has probably never been a better value proposition in Bordeaux. We hope you enjoy our selection.
