The Cappella vineyard is among the oldest sites in St. Helena, located beside a graveyard where legends like André Tchelistcheff and Charles Krug are buried. The vines – painstakingly replanted by David – yielded just 206 cases in 2013, loaded with extraordinary opulence and sensuous texture.
Madrona Ranch, the first property David developed in the 1980s, is often thought of as the heart of Abreu. Located at the base of Spring Mountain, a range of soils from red Aiken to dark clay supply the Cabernet Sauvignon-driven red with dazzling complexity and, in this vintage, 100-point praise.
The Thorevilos Bordeaux Blend, from a steep hillside plot behind St. Helena’s Meadowood Estate, is a stunning tour-de-force effort that also received a perfect score in 2013, matching awesome tannic power with floral finesse.
