The 2021 red Burgundy vintage is unlikely to be celebrated as a legendary year 30 years hence, but in the short to mid-term, offers an abundance of thoroughly enjoyable drinking. The fresh, mid-weight style of the vintage makes it a 'classic' expression of Burgundy, with excellent fruit purity and gorgeous aromatics.
In cooler years like this, Meo-Camuzet always manages to coax a generous amount of fruit from the grapes; the Chambolle Feusselottes and Nuits Argillas offering freshness and a surprising richness. Both are enjoyable already. Staying in Nuits St. Georges, the wonderful Henri Gouges domaine is now on top form, with pure, fine-boned wines the order of the day. As a rarity, try the 'HD', a two-barrel production from very old vines.
Comte Armand's Volnay village is deliciously approachable today, with high-toned floral notes and a velvety texture. The only wine on this list I'd really wait a few more years for is Grivot's Clos Vougeot, a top example of this Grand Cru, and one that will continue improving until at least 2030.
