Quintessential Nuits

Domaine Henri Gouges is almost synonymous with the village of Nuits-St-Georges, and for good reason. The domaine is in the fortunate position of owning parcels of many of the best premiers crus in the village, not least, the great Les St. Georges itself.

But it’s not just the vineyards. The Gouges style has long been recognised as quintessential Nuits: concentrated, structured, and earthy. Recent vintages have seen a move towards greater approachability in youth, meaning that you can try vintages like 2017 with pleasure even today. Nonetheless, Gouges wines are still among the best candidates for ageing in the region; as the wines shed their youthful fruit, the mineral heart emerges, removing any doubt that these wines number among Burgundy’s finest.
