Beringer – Robert Mondavi – Shafer
By Vivian Liang | January 4, 2019
The 1994 vintage in Napa Valley is widely considered excellent. A long and cool growing season enabled the grapes to develop complex flavors and ripe tannins. These healthy, concentrated and fully ripe grapes have all the makings of a true, classic vintage. We are featuring three star producers here.
The Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is Beringer’s flagship wine and is made from the estate’s best fruits. The yields of the 1994 vintage were smaller than usual but the grapes were stunning. The wines were likewise charming, showing layers of opulent black fruits, licorice and almost chocolatey flavours.
The 1994 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is strikingly rich with 51% of grapes coming from Mondavi’s legendary To Kalon Estate Vineyard which is widely regarded as Napa’s first-growth vineyard. The wine is simply exceptional, drinking beautifully now with multi-layers of black currants, sweet spices and a silk-like texture.
Hillside Select is Shafer’s signature wine and it’s made from a collection of 14 small blocks of vineyards planted on rock and volcanic soils. The vineyards were meticulously managed. The grapes were small in size and extremely concentrated. The wines are spectacular with a wealth of black fruits, leather, mineral characters and a rich chewy palate.
