2016 in the Napa Valley

The Moueix Family

The Moueix’s are certainly one of the most respected families in the wine world. Their numerous projects have a worldwide following from Pomerol to Saint-Émilion or Napa Valley, all with a pedigree of quality and class.

We are delighted to present three out of their four wines from the Napa region. While some wines from this area can be very bold, they have brought a great deal of elegance from Bordeaux.

Dominus 2016
Dominus was the first Moueix family project in the US with the acquisition of the estate in 1982. Rich and opulent, packed with inky dark fruits, mint, lavenders, coffee, and wet earth. It is a very expressive wine that could be opened now or cellared for longer.

Napanook 2016
This second label of Dominus is so drinkable right now! Packed with lush bright fruits, fresh and full of finesse with its polished tannins. Pop and pour; this wine is so appealing. Make sure to try the 2017 vintage also available.

Ulysses 2016
The first commercial release was the 2012 vintage, from the family’s latest project in Napa Valley. Located in Oakville, with a slightly warmer microclimate compared to Dominus, the fruit and tannins are generally a bit sweeter and bolder. Sweet berries, herbs, and licorice. Deep, bursting with energy, yet focused. 2016 is considered the most accomplished vintage for Ulysses to date.

The Tesseron Family

Another well-known family is the Tesseron family from Cognac. They purchased Château Pontet-Canet in 1975 and have gone from success to success.  They have pioneered being one of the very first Château to implement biodynamic viticulture in Bordeaux and they continue their innovations by aging the wines in amphorae for example.

Pym-Rae 2016
They acquired the Pym-Rae estate from actor Robin Williams in 2016. The potential of the unique terroir of Mount Veeder has already revealed itself. This layered wine is bright red and black fruits, mint, and cedar. There is plenty of freshness here and the tannins are so refined. A very impressive debut!
