2016 Burgundy Comparative Set: Gevrey Chambertin and Vosne Romanée

Vivian Liang | May 12, 2020

Vivian’s Mixed Case Selections

2016 was an outstanding year in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits producing hauntingly beautiful wines. Though the vintage turned out to be great, the result of warm, dry
weather from the end of June through September, frost and mildew in the early stage of the growth cycle led to a small crop. In spite of low yields, what remained
on the vine proved to be outstanding. Overall, the wines are precise, perfumed and show firm tannins. There is lovely brightness and transparency in the fruit profiles.

I have selected two popular villages in the Côte de Nuits, Gevrey Chambertin and Vosnee Romanée, both of which are known for their structure and aging potential, to illustrate the qualities of this vintage. I suggest using this case to explore the stylistic differences between producers, such as the more established Jean Grivot and Hudelot-Noellat, to the rising stars Berthaut-Gerbet and Coquard Loison Fleurot.
