The Majestic Wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape

Prefert-Beaucastel-Telegraphe

By Graham Tucker | January 12, 2019

Although often overlooked within the realm of the greatest red wine-producing regions of France, the wines from Chateauneuf-du-Pape are a true wine lover’s dream. The appreciable terroir allows the late-ripening Grenache to find its most classic, dignified expression: the considerable sun and heat exposure produces wines with stunning black fruit, currant and spice, while the elevation on which the vineyards sit allows the grapes to preserve their inherent freshness, vibrancy and elegance. And more often than not, especially from the best producers, quintessential CDP displays palpable gamey, smoky and herbal aromas and flavors. The wines are a perfect accompaniment to the heartier and bolder flavors of winter.

Our selection of CDP offers a versatile selection of some of the region’s top producers that range from the more immediately approachable styles of Domaine St. Prefert and Beaurenard to the long lived and concentrated wines of Beaucastel and Vieux Telegraphe.
