The Remarkable Wines of Domaine Huet

Any fan of the long forgotten, if not neglected, Chenin Blanc will tell you the benchmark for its potential rests in the hands of Vouvray’s finest vigneron, Domaine Huet.

Domaine Huet produces a remarkable array of Chenin Blanc with every wine presenting a distinct quality and personality depending on the vineyard and site. Since overtaking wine-making duties in 2012, Jean-Bernard Bertholme has championed the practice of biodynamics and has taken Domaine Huet to even higher level with the wines showcasing a notable purity, focus and precision. He only sources grapes from the finest crus in Vouvray and the wines, in the best years, are among the most age-worthy wines in France.

If you are new to Vouvray, start off with the Haut Lieu, considered Huet’s most approachable and supple of Chenin Blancs. Le Mont Sec in contrast, considered by some to be Vouvray’s finest cru, is marked by intense fruit, richness and vibrant minerality. Next up, and perhaps the pride of Vouvray, is Clos du Bourg, a vineyard producing powerful, generous and extremely complex Chenin. And finally, there is the Le Mont Moelleux, the sweetest and most honeyed - give it time to age and will surely be worth the wait.
