Ready to Drink: 1990 Bordeaux

Margaux – Leoville Las Cases – Pichon Baron – Clerc Milon

A new year presents the opportunity to look back at a new range of anniversary vintages. In 2020, we’re in the fortunate position of having three excellent Bordeaux vintages that are now 30, 20 and 10 years old.

1990 has always been a celebrated vintage for red bordeaux . A warm summer and large yields gave excellent wines on both banks, all of which are ready to go now, with ample fruit and mellow tannins. On the Left Bank, the wines are heavenly for lovers of cedary, tobacco-scented Bordeaux - rarely will you find wines hewing more closely to the textbook description.

Margaux is a perfumed, silky beauty; Leoville Las Cases a powerful, gravelly star and Pichon Baron a notable success: rich, spicy and layered. The 6L imperial bottle of Clerc Milon (a château in the Mouton-Rothschild stable) offers great value for a dinner party.
