Syrah Inspires Autumnal Majesty

By Sara Sparks | November 21, 2018

Perhpas it is Syrah's beguiling range of aromas, from pepper and fern to potpourri and smoke, that inspires its cultivation around the world. One can find Syrah in California and Australia, yet the unbridled expressions from the five regions of the Northern Rhone are what brings collectors and oenophiles back to these wines every vintage.

There's a romantic, ineffable character to Syrah that suits the mood of chilly autumn evenings. A clove studded roast or herbed rack of lamb begs for the spicy foil Hermitage, Cornas, and Cote Rotie provide. A snack of pâté or cassoulet for dinner is a casual occasion for bottles from St. Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage to shine.

The grape's chameleon-like adaptation to terroir means that the expressions from Cote Rotie to Cornas are prime for exploration.
