Magical Margaux: Chateau Palmer

Nick Jackson, MW Consultant | October 3, 2020

Seductive and Seamless
Chateau Palmer has always been a Bordeaux star, but in recent years winemaker Thomas Duroux has taken the wines to new heights. Where Palmer has long been a source of perfumed, elegant Margaux, Duroux has added extra concentration and suppleness of fruit. The  results are seductive, seamless wines that combine textural finesse with layers of aroma and flavour complexity.

The 2008 is quietly one of the best wines of a vintage that often does not receive much attention, and approachable now - a sleeper to try!  The 2009 is as brilliant as you would expect from that year, albeit young. The 2012 shows excellent ripeness for the year. Finally, the Historical XIX Century Wine from the glorious 2010 vintage includes some northern Rhone Syrah in the blend; an unusual and thrilling wine.
