Jean-Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet

Mineral White Burgundy
A visit this month to Caroline l’Estime’s Domaine Jean-Noel Gagnard reaffirmed my opinion that this is one of Chassagne’s top domaines. In addition to her charming 2018s still in barrel, Caroline also poured us almost her full range of 2017s - the best vintage for white Burgundy since 2014.

Reviewing my notes, I found Chaumees to be particularly lip-smacking; the firmly structured Caillerets stony and chalky, and the dazzlingly intense Batard Montrachet combines power with precision to brilliant effect.

Caroline’s wines are the epitome of mineral white Burgundy; her 2017s will satisfy my Chassagne cravings for now and the next 5-8 years.
